Charity plays a central role in Marrakech.
Numerous charitable programs in Marrakech focus on supporting women and young people, promoting education, vocational training, and showing pathways to self-sufficiency.
These initiatives help break the cycle of poverty, promote gender equality, and strengthen the economic independence of marginalized groups.
Animals have a special place in our hearts. That’s why we regularly support various animal protection programs in the city.
Help us help others by donating directly to the individual organizations. We do the same.
The Jarjeer Donkey Shelter is located in the Berber village of Oumnass, just 24 km south of Marrakech. It is a sanctuary for donkeys and home to many animals. Disabled children regularly participate in free therapeutic riding sessions. Jarjeer Mules helps animals and the local population throughout the surrounding area. Visitors are warmly welcomed.
Please contact the donkey farm by phone or email to arrange your visit in advance.
The 'Societe Protectrice des Animaux et de la Nature' (SPANA) is a non-profit Moroccan foundation under the patronage of Princess Lalla Asmaa. The large animal shelter provides medical care for injured or sick animals and also takes them in when needed. Impoverished Moroccans can have their animals treated at this center for free. At SPANA, you can also adopt animals.
Visits and adoptions are possible from Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
"Pikala" means "bicycle" in Arabic. A few years ago, a young Dutchwoman named Cantal founded a Dutch NGO called "Pikala" with the aim of providing young Moroccans with future opportunities and promoting "green mobility" as a counterbalance to the many mopeds and scooters in Marrakech.
Around 90 young Moroccans have been trained here in their hometown to become bicycle tour guides and acquire extensive knowledge in bicycle mechanics. They also learn how to organize their lives and take on responsibilities.
Since the profession of "guide" in Morocco is still predominantly male-dominated, Pikala places a special emphasis on promoting young women. The Pikala Foundation is supported, among others, by TUI.
The organization provides access to (higher) education for youth in the High Atlas region of Morocco, taking into account the prevailing culture and with the aim of empowerment.
In the greater Marrakech/Morocco area, female students are provided with safe accommodation during their studies in the city. These young women are coached and supported in city and academic life. Through workshops, educational outings, and group exchanges, informal knowledge is imparted.
The first apartment for a supervised female student community in Marrakech has been rented. Four students have been living there since October 2023. Currently, everyone is preparing for their first exams. The organization urgently needs financial support to finance the apartment and furnishings for the first year of study.
